This semester i have decided to do a negotiated study on urban vandalism. I will be documenting my findings and regularly posting it on my blog.
I was hoping to find illegal graffiti, to study the culture and the anonymous cries for attention. The colourful twisted walls of art really interest me. It seems to be a pattern that graffiti artist work in places hidden from traffic, but in areas they will be seen by foot traffic. I was hoping to travel to other major cities such as Sydney and Adelaide to see the different scale of street art. Id say it would be a lot more easier to find the 'hidden' graffiti in those major cities with a much more higher poverty ratio. It seems to me that you find vandalism in abandon buildings, train stations and storm water drain pipes. The individuals that vandalise aren't law abiding citizens (of course) most of them id say are homeless, with a lot of time to themselves to think about their lives and decisions they have taken, hence the need to 'ask'/ 'show' their emotions in vast scales of colour and size.
